Arrival by airplane
International attendees arrive through one of the following airports and continue with train, shuttle, or taxi as described below.
Frankfurt (Main) Airport
This is the most convenient and most general option.
Frankfurt (Main) Airport is a major hub in Europe. There is a direct train connection right from the airport to Koblenz at least once per hour. Proceed (as in "walk") to the train station "Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbahnhof" which serves the fast IC and ICE trains. (There is also a "regional" train station which isn't too helpful.) The train ride takes about 90mins. You should buy your train ticket online; you can buy it at the station, but there may be long lines. Shared taxi trips may be borderline economical. (Distance 110km.)
Cologne/Bonn Airport
Cologne/Bonn Airport is a smaller airport with European connections also including some budget airlines. There is a direct train connection right from the airport to Koblenz once per hour. The train ride takes 83mins. You should buy your train ticket online; you can buy it at the station, but there may be long lines. Shared taxi trips may be borderline economical. (Distance 80km or 100km depending on route.)
Düsseldorf Airport
Düsseldorf Airport is a smaller airport with European connections also including some budget airlines. There is a direct train connection right from the airport to Koblenz once per hour. The train ride takes 90mins-2hours. You should buy your train ticket online; you can buy it at the station, but there may be long lines. Taxi trips may cause budget blowups. (Distance 160km.)
Frankfurt Hahn Airport
Frankfurt Hahn Airport is a small airport served by low-budget airlines. (Despite the name, this airport is nowhere close to Frankfurt!) There is a phttp://omnibusse.bohr.de/routes/wtc/routes.php?action=detail&route_id=28&language=en shuttle bus service] every 3 hours from the airport to Koblenz. The bus ride takes 70mins. Tickets are to be bought on the bus (11 Euros). Shared taxi trips may be economical. (Distance 85km.)
Luxembourg Airport
This is the least convenient and least general option.
Luxembourg Airport is a small airport with European connections. There is bus service to the Luxembourg train station, to continue via train to Koblenz. Taxi trips may cause budget blowups. (Distance 170km.)
Moving around in Koblenz
It is assumed that you have arrived by train, bus, car, or taxi in Koblenz.
The recommended hotels are in the city, in walking distance from Central station or possibly subject to a very short taxi trip (7-12 Euro).
The conference venue (i.e., the university campus) is a bit outside the city, this would be a 3.5km walk mainly along the Moselle river, or a short taxi trip (10 Euro or less), or a bus ride (which is for free once you received your bus tickets that's covered by the registration).
Bus options
- Bus line 20 from Koblenz Hbf (= central station) to Winninger Str. (= university campus): 10min.
- Bus line 3 from Löhr-Center (= city center) to Winninger Str. (= university campus): 10min.
- Bus line 5/15 Koblenz Hbf or Löhr-Center to UNI (= university campus): 20min.
Moving around on the campus
There will be signs posted everywhere.
Getting your bus ticket
If you attend Sunday night's informal (pre-)reception, which takes place in the city center, then we will hand out the ticket to you. Otherwise, you could buy a single ticket on the bus.

There is several parking options at the campus or in close proximity. For instance, there are parking places available opposite of the main entrance of the university. Alternatively, if you pass the main entrance of the university (on your left hand side), follow the street to turn at its end to the right and park underneath the big bridge.
